Set in the 1980s in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, the first season focuses on the investigation into the disappearance of a young boy (Will Byers) amid supernatural events occurring around the town, including the appearance of a girl with psychokinetic abilities (Eleven).
Key Locations
Hawkins National Lab
A restricted government facility where illegal experiments were conducted on children, including Eleven, opening the first Gate.
Starcourt Mall
The shiny new center of commerce in Hawkins, concealing a massive secret Soviet base beneath its neon-lit corridors.
Creel House
An abandoned Victorian home with a dark past, serving as the lair for Vecna and the center of his psychic attacks.
The Upside Down
An alternate dimension existing in parallel to the human world. A cold, dark, and toxic reflection of Hawkins.
The Lore
The Mind Flayer
A malevolent entity that rules the Upside Down. It possesses a hive mind, controlling all organisms within its dimension. Its ultimate goal is to consume and conquer other worlds.
The Gate
A tear in the fabric of reality connecting Hawkins to the Upside Down. While the initial gate was opened psychically by Eleven, machines and other methods have been used to reopen it.
